They're here - Dark Sky Evening Dates!

Here at GlamPods Northumberland on a clear night our Dark Sky official reading is 21.23 – what better way to watch the sky from the comfort of your own Pod surrounded by vast open space, peace and quiet.We have available for a small hire fee, a stargazing pack containing binoculars, charts and books, gloves, fleece rugs, red torches, hot chocolate and of course the Pods have a fridge and a kettle for something warm or something chilled!

Northumberland National Park forms part of the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park. Unveiled in December 2013 and at 572 square miles (1,483 square kilometres) it is also Europe's largest area of protected night sky. Thanks to its pristine skies it was awarded gold tier designation by the International Dark Sky Association, making it officially the best place in England for people to go to enjoy the heavens.

Northumberland International Dark Sky Park is one of many such parks located across the world. They have been designated by the International Dark Sky Association, the recognised world authority on light pollution.Here, on a clear night, you can see up to 3000 stars, the Milky Way and even the Andromeda Galaxy (2.5 million light years away) with the naked eye. Every night, there is something different to see, from meteor showers to the Northern lights.

We are offering a Dark Sky Evening Experience that can be booked with a Pod stay and is an evening with our Science Presenter Liam, who is great fun and takes astronomy from the very novice to the very experienced and makes it absolutely fascinating and a little bit addictive– it is really not to be missed. Your evening includes cooking your supper over the fire in our Lapland BBQ Hut whilst listening to, taking part in and watching Liam's presentation.
