Glamping In Northumberland
This was quoted to me by a visiting friend and I guess it’s something I take for granted but yes, at times, I live in a very peaceful place. Mind, this is very much “season dependant”, it’s not as quiet in silage and lambing times. Troughend is very much a working family farm headed by my father-in -law Joe and my husband Philip. The farm covers 2,300 acres and runs blackface sheep and Limousin/Simmental cows and their progeny.
Bringing The Glamping Idea to Troughend
GlamPods Northumberland was an idea that Philip and I thought about, having been glamping a few times and thoroughly enjoyed it. We are based in the middle of the Northumberland National Park and it seemed an opportunity too good to miss. This is a place to visit for 2 days or 2 weeks, from Wedding Guests to Walkers and Dark Sky Watchers – this area and our beautifully situated pods, cater for everyone.
Why Glamping And Not a Camping Site?
It boils down to the fact that we enjoyed our own glamping experiences so much and the proximity of several thriving wedding venues in Otterburn village, which often struggled to find enough good quality accommodation for the larger crowds of wedding guests that could gather.
Another reason was that surrounded by the Northumberland National park and with other attractions like Kielder Water, Hadrian’s Wall, Wallington, Cragside, Alnwick Castle and Garden, Bamburgh Castle, Lindisfarne and the Farne Islands just a short drive away, there were already many dozens of camping sites in the area, doing a great job.
Otterburn just seemed a great location to add to the possibilities for glamping in the North East. It gives a great jumping off point for all the outdoor activities in Kielder Forest and the Cheviots as well. Additionally, a lot of active, outdoor people, appreciate a little touch of luxury after a hard day’s riding or walking!
Positive Partners
Once we had cultivated the initial seed of trying to set up a site for glamping in our little patch of the north east of England, we discussed our plans with some of the owners of wedding venues around Otterburn. We were delighted with their positive response to our idea of adding luxury wedding accommodation, so close to their venues, which would compliment what they already offered rather than be in direct competition.
We are recommended by Le Petit Chateau and Woodhill Hall as wedding accommodation suppliers and we have a good relationship with a lot of fantastic pubs and restaurants in the area and we are very happy to recommend. Please see our list of places to eat with contact details attached.
